taken mosaics as a classical medium and evolved it to depict modern imagery.

Lewis & Clark College, Independent studies in Yorkshire, England and
received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pacific Northwest College
of Art. She has been commissioned for public art and her work is collected
internationally. Her exhibition schedule for 2006 includes shows in Chicago,
St. Louis, Miami, Palm Beach, Seattle, Scottsdale and New York City. Cassandria
maintains a storefront showroom in Seattle’s Capitol Hill district.
Abstract Bio:
Glass Mosaics have always been fascinating to me, in part, because of
their archival quality. They have withstood the test of time throughout
art history allowing the viewer to see an ancient work of art in the same
condition and color space as when the artist created it. Each piece of
glass is integrated into the composition. Images become puzzles. They
are visual and tactile diaries written in a sort of Braille telling the
tale of how they were created. My work is reverse painted in washes of
color echoing natural elements such as water, distant landscapes and microscopic
biology.
Technical
Info:
My work is created by reverse painting on glass and then breaking the
glass into thousands of shards. The piece is then reassembled like a puzzle.
The paintings expand in size to leave room for the grout. Some of the
glass is fused together in order to use the optics of tinted glass. The
surface of the work shimmers as light refracts off all the pieces sometimes
creating prisms.
