CREATIVE STATEMENT
The recent vessel - type sculptures that I have created are titled the “M” series and are forms depicting deep space and the physical feel of being drawn into that space. The titles - M42 Orion, M95 Leo, NGC 891 Andromeda, M83 Hydra, and NGC 2237 Rosette - are the scientific and descriptive titles of various nebulas, galaxies and stars, with their swirling, folding, and twisting masses of dust and gas. These works express the feel of expanding and contracting in a dimensionless growth, an ephemeral as well as a biological state. Their flesh - like surfaces seem to be describing as yet unformed organisms floating in space; organisms that could be human, plant or animal.

The flowing ribbon - like forms are part of the on - going “Arc” and “Twist” series. They describe an architectural type of undulating movement having a beginning and end point and relating to the space around it.

The newest works created in 2005 are part of the “Nautilus” series. These works are reminiscent of ocean shells, with their open forms and thin, wavy edges. Their surfaces reflect an ongoing experimentation with new colors and textures.
