Jorge
Blanco
“During the last 12 years I have directed my efforts to the creation of large scale sculptures, convinced that through works that are vibrant and full of optimism I can contribute to the cultural development of our communities. This dedication has helped me attain the experience and technical capability to design and construct large scale projects. The materials that I work with are of the highest quality. Aluminum, stainless steel, powder coating or polyurethane enamel are combined, achieving excellent results in withstanding the elements. I have successfully installed large scale works in Japan, Venezuela and the U.S.A. The cities of Tokyo (4 sculptures), Caracas, (2) and Sarasota (3) have given me the opportunity to create large scale works that are part of their public art collections. My works are also in private collections in South America, the United States and Europe. Humanity’s interest in and need for art is widely acknowledged. Public Art, especially architecture and sculpture, gives everyone the chance of satisfying this need. Public art has the double virtue of providing a city with a special personality, recognized and admired for these expressions of community support and enthusiasm. Studying at the Neumann Institute of Design in my native city of Caracas stimulated my three dimensional work. Brilliant Venezuelan professors, like sculptors Cornelis Zitman, Gego, Marcel Floris, Harry Abend and painters Luisa Palacios and Humberto Jaimes Sanchez, among others, nurtured my creativity and artistic abilities. My admiration for the great creators of the 20th century, Paul Klee, Naum Gabo, Joan Miro, Alexander Calder, Auguste Herbin, Jean Dubuffet and Jesus Soto, was a driving force behind my work. Other experiences, living in Rome for over 4 years, studying the works of the great masters of the Renaissance, my interest in Pre-Colombian art and my formation as an Industrial Designer have definitely been primary influences in my development as a sculptor.”
